Looking at the rear of the cooler, we find a location for the power connector and additional USB expansion ports built into the cooler itself, which is a handy feature. The cooler adds 4 additional ports but uses up 2 (one for the power and one for the hub), so in total you gain 2 USB ports. On the side of the cooler is a fan-speed knob, which allows you to vary the speed (and therefore the sound) with a simple turn of the knob.

As expected, there is no installation involved in this cooler; simply set it on the table and plunk your notebook onto of it, then install the USB cables. I tested it out using my 17” Dell laptop and it fit on the cooler no problem, which is more than I can say with most of my coolers. It can easily handle 19” laptops as well. The laptop felt rock solid on the cooler and the rubber feet prevented slippage.
After plugging in the USB cable to power the fans, I was impressed with the sound quality and airflow of this particular cooler. Thanks to the large fans used on the cooler, the noise is somewhat abated, and you can adjust the speed using the handy knob. Also, I really liked the ergonomic angle at which the cooler elevated the notebook; typing felt more natural. However, after using it for a while, I think I would have liked to have seen an adjustable height setting.
I noticed about a 1 to 2 degree drop in CPU or video card temperature with the cooler, and I did notice a reduced amount of CPU fan on-time, indicating that the cooler was making a difference.
Conclusion:
The NZXT Cryo LX cooler is a simple yet effective notebook cooler that gets the job done. It’s definitely a large/heavy cooler, but it’s made to accommodate 19” laptops with ease. The USB ports and fan speed adjustments are handy features, and the rubber pads and feet give the cooler a sturdy and comfortable feel. But perhaps most importantly, this cooler delivers a ton of airflow thanks to the three 120mm fans. If you’re looking for a notebook cooler that actually cools, you should consider this NZXT offering.
Pros:
+ Good ergonomic angle
+ Noticeable cooling performance with lots of airflow
+ Lightweight, aluminum construction
+ USB expansion hub and adjustable fan speed features
