Late last year we took a look at an interesting 120mm PWM fan from Noctua. Now we have the chance to review the rest of their PWM fans; so let’s take a look how well they perform.

The fans we’re taking a look today are Noctua NF-P12, NF-B9 and NF-R8. They all belong to the new PWM-enabled premium fan line and are widely available in market. All three fans are priced around 15-20€ each which might sound a bit steep but considering the quality Noctua fans have had in the past, the price isn’t that excessive. However if you don’t need all the features Noctua has to offer, there are better solutions available.

Considering the fact that we are speaking about fans, Noctua has provided us with quite a nice setup of accessories. Alongside with a quick manual and screws you get rubbermade fanholders, extension cable, Y-split adapter and low noise adapter.

All three fans come with a Y-adapter to split one PWM-fan (4-pin) to two. This adapter makes it easy to plug multiple fans to your computer even if your computer only has single PWM-enabled fanslot. Personally, I use such adapter with my CPU-cooler to control my push-pull fans.

If you want to reduce the fanspeed of your fans, Noctua provides L.N.A (Low noise adapter) with each of the fans in this review. Like the Y-adapter, the L.N.A can also be plugged in the PWM-enabled fan connector in order to limit the maximum fanspeed. In addition to this one can use the apdater with traditional a 3-pin fan connector and make the fan work with roughly about 7volt voltage. The voltage drop is achieved with a single resistor in the hot wire.
I was looking for a laptop cooler. This helped me alot. thanks! 🙂
