Singularity (PS3) - Preview

Raven Software have a busy 2009 ahead of them with big titles due for release such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine. One of the lesser known titles in their upcoming schedule is a game called Singularity which promises to differentiate itself from the crowd by offering a gun which can distort the time period of its targets. We spent some time with developer Raven Software and they were happy to show us some of the game code

Midnight Club LA Remix - PSP Review

I had lots of fun playing this game. What am I saying? I'm still having lots of fun playing this game. While the racing in itself is about the same as most other racing games on the PSP, it is the way that you race that makes this game great. First of all, there is no track system. This game is an open-world race track with lots of streets, alleys and sidewalks that you can drive on. There are multiple ways to reach a checkpoint and there are many shortcuts to discover that will help you leave your adversaries in the dust. While you will almost certainly be better off purchasing this game on the Xbox or the PS3, if you are a fan of the PSP or if you have to do any traveling anytime soon, Midnight Club - L.A. Remix is a must get. My profession is both a blessing and a curse.

Savage Moon (Playstation 3) Review

The Playstation store has been home to many addictive titles throughout the last year such as Wipeout HD and The Last Guy. FluffyLogic and Sony Computer Entertainment have released a title in the tower defense genre entitled Savage Moon. While this is similar in nature to PixelJunk’s Monsters there are some gameplay issues which somewhat ruin the strategic element of the game.

NYKO Intercooler TS for the Xbox 360 Reviewed

When it comes to Xbox 360 ownership, the term “Red Ring of Death” or “RROD” for short, seems part of the vernacular. This is typically caused by overheating of the system when engaged in long periods of spirited gameplay. When Halo 3 launched, many cases of these RRODs were reported, and a similar number of Xbox 360’s were shipped away in little corrugated coffins for repair or replacement. That means that anything to reduce temperatures in our Xbox 360’s is welcome and so does NYKO.

Madagascar Escape 2 Africa - 360 Review

If you got dragged to Madagascar 2 by your kids you might as well take Jr. to a gaming store so he can spend that crisp 50 dollar bill that grandma send him for Christmas within a card still unread. Only make the rules clear or otherwise there's going to be another seven-year-old kid playing GTAIV. This game is rated E10+ (Everyone age 10 and up) for mild cartoon violence, mild suggestive themes and simulated gambling.

CyberPower Gamer Xtreme XT Gaming System Review

“Prebuilt systems, we all know of them and when we see them one thing comes to our mind, "I would love to have that, but I can't afford it". Many prebuilt systems cost a crazy amount of cash and you really are just paying for the name and looks, not what's actually inside the computer. CyberPower wants to change that with their Gamer Xtreme XT system. For $1599 you get a gaming system that will play every game available and looks great too. Did I mention you get a 30-day money back guarantee and a 3 year labor and 1 year parts warranty? Let's see if this system is worth the $1599 price tag.&q uot;

CoolIT Domino ALC CPU Cooler Review

In some ways we suspect that Battleforge may be a little bit ahead of its time. One undeniable thing about hardcore PC gaming is that singleplayer is getting a less attractive option to many players, with online and co-op play rapidly replacing it. PC piracy is also forcing developers to find new ways to authenticate their system without all that unpopular DRM. It’s also forcing publishers to look at new ways to finance the games.

All those things, Battleforge does through its online-only gameplay and a well designed, secure player client. The issue though is that the market may not be totally ready for the sudden move because, although games are starting to head down that road, they really aren’t doing it en masse quite yet. There are still a lot more singleplayer games than MMOs, for example.

Regardless of how intimidating a sale Battleforge may be for the market at the moment though, one thing we know for certain is that the game is both ingenious and addictive, with a steadily fun gameplay at the core and a solid business model wrapped around it. If gamers turn out to be ready for Battleforge afterall, then we have no doubt that it could be the Next Big Thing.

Skate 2 Review (PS3 & Xbox 360)

The original Skate was a phenomenal success when it was released in 2007 - it sold twice as many copies when compared to its competitor Tony Hawk. This was in part due to the fresh approach it brought to the genre and also because of the Flickit control system which proved a massive hit with the gaming community. Today we take a look at the much awaited followup to see if it recaptures the magic of the first.

Lord Of The Rings Conquest (PS3) Review

Conquest is the latest title in the Lord Of The Rings franchise to be released by Electronic Arts. Call of Duty: World at War (XB360) Reviewed

"Does a change of venue make it a unique game? I don’t know, there've been other Pacific Theater games, although the stuff on the Ost Front are a little slim--multiplayer-only held against it, Red Orchestra is one of the coolest WWII shooters I've ever had the pleasure of getting smacked with--but c'mon, it's WWII. If the Second World War was a genre, it'd probably be real-time strategy. Everyone's had a tour."

GELID Silent Spirit

"In testing the Silent Spirit, the temperatures rose to 62 degrees Celsius, which is pretty good. With an extra high CFM fan mounted on the heat sink, I was able to overclock to 3.8ghz with the same temperatures. The stock i7 heat sink performed similarly, although a little more loudly. Idle temperatures come close to the competition, but at load the temperatures escalated to near-stock performance. The heat sink looks to be able to handle the 130w i7 920, and would probably fair even better with a dual-core or tri-core processor."

ASUS P5Q3 LGA775 Intel P45 ATX Motherboard

: Launched last summer by Intel, the P45 chipset has quickly grown in popularity, replacing the aging P35 chipset. Intended for a mid to upper mainstream consumer base, the P45 chipset boasts some impressive features, such as: full DDR2/DDR3 support, 20 PCI Express 2.0 lanes, ATI Crossfire support, and a 65nm manufacturing process. By now manufacturers have had ample time to design and refine their P45 based motherboards and today Benchmark Reviews takes a look at ASUS' mainstream P45 DDR3 motherboard: the P5Q3. As a twist on our usual motherboard reviews, this article will also shed some light on the growing DDR2 vs DDR3 debate with some hard numbers in the benchmark sections.

Lowepro Classified 250 AW Camera and Laptop Shoulder Bag Review

It’s safe to say that with over 40 years of experience, the folks at Lowepro know a thing or two about camera bags. Their bags are well known for their durability, functionality and ability to protect your expensive camera gear from the elements. Although these things are extremely important in a camera bag, sometimes you just don’t want people knowing you have thousands of dollars of gear inside a bag. That’s where Lowepro’s new “Classified Series” comes into play.

XFX Radeon HD 4870 512MB XXX

“The trend of expanding product’s portfolio among manufacturers of graphics cards doesn’t abate, and this situation resulted in many new products based on ATI GPUs on the market. Nvidia’s so far exclusive partners are beginning to reject this kind of “monogamy”. For some of those partners this decision was quite expected from the very beginning but XFX came out as a true surprise because of their reputation of being Nvidia’s “hard core” partner. Even though we had to wait little bit more than it was officially announced, the first XFX Radeon was finally introduced…”

BIOS Option Of The Week - Digital Locked Loop (DLL).

Since 1999, we have been developing the BIOS Optimization Guide, affectionately known as the BOG. From a meager beginning of a single page, it now covers over 400 BIOS options. As old BOG readers will know, we started offering two editions of the BOG since Revision 8.0 - a simplified edition and the complete edition. Normally, the complete edition is only available to subscribers who help sponsor the development of the guide through a small fee. However, that changes today! From now on, we will post a BIOS option from the complete edition of the BIOS Optimization Guide every Sunday. This week, we will be taking a look at the Digital Locked Loop (DLL) BIOS option.

GELID Solutions GC-1 Thermal Compound

: Arctic Silver 5 has long been hailed as the king of thermal compounds but it seems the king is finally dead. The GELID GC-1 trumps the AS5 in a couple of aspects. Letting the temperatures speak for themselves, the GC-1 does a much better job at conducting heat (or maybe, not impeding it as much). There is a caveat here, however, as the "delta" temperatures were somewhat close. With that said, the GC-1 did have a smaller "delta" between the idle and load temperatures in every test.
