The Port is a bit smaller than a normal hockey pucl and its even shaped the same way. The USB port is placed in the middle of the unit and the button to use for backup is placed in the front. In the back of the device you will find the small USB plugin where you plug in the USB cord from your computer. I would say you get about 1 meter of cord (~3 feet) which is plenty even if you have put your computer below your desk as I have.
When you plug the flash drive into the device Windows will find the drive automaticlly in Windows as usually. This far installation has been really easy so lets get on with the software to see what features it holds. Software: WIth the device you get NovaBACKUP, this device allows you to backup most of your data. You can easily click in to backup your mail, documents, etc or you can also choose to backup the data online as they offer a online storaege account. This software also allows you to setup time schedules when you want it to backup the data or just set it up so you can push on the Voyager Port button and it will backup all the data when you want it to. The virus scanner helps you to keep the backup free from viruses so make sure you update the virus definitions frequently. I have been using the software for a few days and I have to admit this thing will be used by me personally, I have been looking for a reliable and easy to use backup feature and this seems to be the answer to my questions. With a durable flash drive I should be able to keep my backup data safe wherever I go. Testing:
According to our test results the flash drive performs as good with and without the Port. The average read is the same while the burst speed is a bit higher without the Port but in overall the speed is pretty much the same. Conclusion: The Voyager port is a cool little gadget that will help you to backup data in an easy way. With the Port you don't have to stretch back behind the computer and you don't have to schedule anything in hard configured software. With the wizard on the software you can easily backup all your data with one single push of a button. Some people might find this device to be annoying and a waste of time but if you want easy access to a backup system and don't want to fool around in software for more than a min this is a good choice. I found this device for around 30$ online which is not bad at all, I could imagine myself paying that for this device if I was in need for a backup system. Overall as said I am more than satisfied with the device itself, it's fast and very stable, it also offers a easy way to backup data so there is nothing really I can complain about! Pros: Cons:
