Even though DDR3 is slowly starting to make it on the market the DDR2 is still mostly used by consumers. For that reason we still have a DDR2 board to review since they perform very well with good ram kits. Asus sent us a sample of their P5K Pro motherboard that we are going to take a look at tonight, we are going to twist and turn this card and also try to boost some extreme experience out of the it so stay tuned for tonights review.

This motherboard comes packed in a very nice box with everything separated by small bags and the board is covered by a piece of cardboard to protect it from the moving accessories in the box. On the back of the box you will find various specifications that you can take a part of before buying the board.

As usual you get a raid manual and a manual for the motherboard, this manual is well written and covers most topics needed to get this board to run and even do more. Once again I review a motherboard without rounded IDE cable, instead you get flat big floppy and IDE cable along with the I/O plate, SATA cables and a power adapter from molex to SATA power plugin.

This board is quote colorful and we can see that it is also equipped with several heatsinks to keep the chipsets running stable.

The man three heatsinks are located on the chipsets around the cpu socket, in some cases this might give you some problems when installing big heatsinks but not here, I was able to mount our big Coolermaster Hyper cpu cooler on the board without any issues which means most of the heatsinsk on the market will fit on the board.

The memory slots are colored yellow and black so you know which slots to use to run your ram as dual channel. The IDE connector is angled 90 degrees to make it able to hide the cable and to connect it. Above the IDE connector Asus have placed the 6 SATA connectors which will let you connect more than enough drives.

The heatsinks are made out of copper and they have perfectly aligned fins to maximize heat transfer to the heatsink. You still got a couple of PCI slots on the motherboard and beside them you also have some extra ports for USB and also a floppy drive port.
