Testing was done by measuring the voltages at the connectors with a multimeter. Idle voltages were taken running Windows and full loads were taken while running 3dmark2005. Results of similar tests on a previously reviewed FSP Power Mods 750W PSU and the Coolmax CU700 700W PSU are included for comparison.
Setup:
AMD 64+ AM2 5500+
ECS GeForce 6100SM Motherboard
2 GB SuperTalent DDR2 RAM
GeForce 9800GT video card
Western Digital 250 GB 7200 rpm harddrive
Maxtor 200GB rpm hard drive
Hitachi 80GB SATA harddrive
LG DVD burner
3.3V testing
The 3.3v rail performance was very stable, as with most PSUs on the market.
5V testing
The 5V rail also has solid performance.
12V testing
Surprisingly, the 12V rails showed a little more variation than we were used to seeing and a little on the low side, though certainly well within the ATX specification. Overall, I don’t think these numbers are an area of concern at all.
Conclusion
The Coolmax V600 600W Power Supply is a solid performing power supply that focuses on noise performance. Its silent operation at all power levels is very impressive. However, there were a couple of things I would consider if choosing this power supply, namely the relatively small number of SATA connectors, only one PCI-E cable, and short cables. Also, the unit has a fairly basic design with no fancy exterior or LEDs. But if you’re more interested in how the supply performs than how it looks, you should consider this supply for your next PC build.
Pros:
+ Solid performance
+ Quiet operations
+ Quick release connectors on the 4-pin connectors
Cons:
- Only 2 SATA and single PCI-E connectors
- Short cables
- No cable sleeving
