As with most Thermaltake products, the Thermaltake Power Express 650W VGA Power Supply (PSU) arrived in a sturdy cardboard package with colorful pictures of the unit on the front. Our box came a little dinged up from the trip, but no damage to the unit was sustained. The package also has a list of features/specifications.

The Power Express VGA PSU is not a standalone power supply, but rather an additional/secondary supply that provides up to 850W of additional power specifically for a video card. This is great for those situations where you have a decent power supply but just need some additional juice to power graphics card, especially a dual graphics card system. By choosing this product, you can avoid having to incur the greater cost of buying a whole new supply.

Opening up the package, the PSU can be found secured at both sides by foam inserts with the cables neatly bundled inside a nifty pouch. Along with the power supply, the package contained four screws, set of cables, a power cable, and a PCI outlet bracket.

Taking a closer look at the supply, the first thing to notice is that it is shorter than a standard supply. This unit is meant to be installed in a 5.25” drive bay, since obviously you can’t install it where a normal power supply goes. The front of the unit has a sleek-looking grill and three small LEDs on the bottom right that is the only indication that this is a power supply. The supply has a nice gray matte finish that should compliment most computer builds.
