Introduction

Today we take a look at a DDR2 kit from Gskill. We got their new 8500 kit that seems to perform quite well according to some other reviews I have seen. We are going to compare this vs our previous DDR2 kits that have performed the best. We are also going to try to boost this kit a bit to see how it performs under heavy overclocking.

This package has to be one of the nicest ones I have seen when it comes to a memory kit. It is very well packed and the box glows very nice in various colors while you got the specifications on the back of the box. When you open it up you will see the ram sticks packed in a plastic container to cover them and keep them separated during shipping.

Normally when you get a memory kit you get just the memory kits, but Gskill have added a little extra touch by providing some stickers you can mount on your case or wherever you feel.

The ram kits look awesome I love the color of the heatsinks and their silver colored logo in the corner gives them a very nice touch. On each memory stick you will have a small sticker telling you the ram specifications. Remember not to remove the sticker as it will void the warranty on the ram.

So far the ram looks good, but it all comes down to the performance so it is time to have a look at the testing part of this review to see how the ram performs.

Testing:

Intel QX6700
Gskill Pc2 8500
Asus P5K-Pro Asus 8600GTS
Zalman 500W PSU
Maxtor 80GB IDE HDD

To benchmark this ram kit we have used Sisoft Sandra XI, Everest Home Edition, SuperPi and Pcmark Vantage.

Everest Home Edition:

Everest benchmarks both read, write, and delay on the ram and if we look at the graph we can see that the Gskill is faster in this test, which is a good start for this ram.
