First look at the Phenom 2 905e

Another AMD processor reached our mailbox a week ago, it's the Phenom 2 905e which is supposed to be a mid range processor. You can get this for around 180$ so it's not to badly priced if the performance is decent. We are going to compare it vs the high end Phenom 2 955 and mid end 940 from AMD to see where we can place this processor performance wise.

We got our unit in a black box with AMD print on it, there was nothing printed about which cpu it is so I'm glad we knew about it  before it arrived. The cpu is padded inside the box and the padding prevents it from moving around and getting its legs bent.

We used the following software in our tests, Sisoft Sandra 2009, SuperPi, Pcmark Vantage and overclocking was done through Bios.

Now according to various processor charts the 905e should be a tad faster than the 940. The 955 is the high end processor and just included to show what you can get for another 70$. Here we see that the 940 is faster when it comes to GIPS count.
