Asus EN8600GTS Videocard

Introduction

If you don’t have the money to buy the latest videocard then you might want to consider going for something else that costs less but still can perform good. We got a sample from Asus in the mail and inside the box we found a Asus EN8600GTS card, this is a middle class card that you can catch at 200$ on the market these days. We will compare it vs a 8800GTS and vs an older ATI card to really see what type of performance we can get out of this card.

The product comes packed in a nice standard Asus box with the color scheme of black and green. On the front there is a picture of a woman like on all videocard packages, don’t know what it has to do with a videocard but anyways :). Asus also wants people to see that on this card they got a new cooler which is supposed to be up to 10C cooler than refence boards, this remains to be seen in the end of the test though. On the back fo the box you can read about the cards features and specifications.

With every product you get some accessories of course and with this card you get a couple of driver cds, manual, cd wallet, and an adapter from S-video to RGB. The CD/DVD wallet is a nice accessory so you can save your driver cds and software without losing them.

In case you don’t have a DVI screen there is an adapter included for normal VGA also. The card itself is quite small compared to the biggest 8800 cards. The heatsink/fan combo covers up most of the card. It almost looks like the fan would have leds on it but this is not the case. The heatsink is quite well made with the fins spaced apart perfectly away from each other to get in the right amount of air so it can transfer the heat from the heatsink.

Remember to connect the PCI-E power cable, otherwise the card will not work as intended. I lack a molex to PCI-E adapter with this setup as alot of people still use older power supplies and don’t have a PCI-E power connector.
