The cooler of our sample unit is made from aluminium. It has a large copperbase and three heatpipes to share the heat along the heatsink. On top of the heatsink there’s a plastic casing which is meant to direct the heat off the case. The heatsink also cools down the memory modules and the power components of the graphics card.

After removing the cooler we can see the interesting details about this card. It is actually based on the same PCB as the Radeon 6870. According to AMD it is impossible to unlock the shaderunits and ROP:s of this card with biosflash, although the chip and PCB are the same as with the 6870. We tested this with flashing 6870s bios and it did not work. In the card, around the Barts LE chip, there are eight 128MB GDDR5 memory modules resulting in the total memory of 1GB. Power supply components are located in the back area of the card.
