Cable Sleeving Guide

Just do the same process as mentioned above. This time you can feed it through each wire independently. Try to make the wire straight to be able to slip the heat shrink on easily. By this I mean; where there are molex pins, bend them to a horizontal position and tape them down. Rather than sticking out, they will lie flat and you can easily slip the heat shrink and sleeving over. Tape is not required but makes it easier.

Last part of the wire; just measure the heat shrink to the size you need, cut, slip on, and FIRE! =P

Using the same process for the whole wire I came up with this as a finished product. It’s looking nice already. It’s time for the next wire which consists of 2 molex plugs and one floppy power connector. The floppy connector is a lot easier to remove than the molex connectors, simple push in the tabs on the bottom part of the connector and pull the pins out. I don’t need to describe the whole process again, it’s the same principle.

I mentioned the optional 3/8” heat shrink; this is what it’s used for. If look you can slip it over the molex plugs to hide the molex connector, you can place the sleeving even farther down the molex plug if you like. First you have to sand down the side tabs of the molex for the heat shrink to be able to slip on, and you’re good to go. This is a lot easier than the other heat shrink and it can normally be applied through the molex connector with no hassles of going around the other side or anything.

Conclusion

Look’s much better doesn’t it? To finish it off I used the zip-tie to tie together the cables on the inside of the PSU so they’re nice and tight. Was it worth all the sweat, pain, and suffering? Defiantly! I didn’t need to sleeve the ATX power cable as it already came sleeved with my Enermax PSU, thank God! If it wasn’t, no way in hell would I remove that plug, label each wire, and place it back in! That alone would take a few hours. =P If you want your PSU to look great and don’t have the luxury of a pre-sleeved ATX power cable, have fun! There are other alternatives that don’t look as great such as split loom, but a true modder would still sleeve the beast.

Sleeving is a must, I repeat, a must. Jab-Tech carries both the sleeving and heat shrink in many colors for endless color combinations that match your case. They can also help you determine how much sleeving you’ll need if you’re not sure. So how much will a mod like this cost you? Surprisingly, only about $6. Once again, thanks to Jab-Tech for providing us with the required materials. Be sure to add that unique look to your PSU and pick up some sleeving and heatshrink.
