Silent Computer Article

These days everyone wants a quiet computer, it doesnt matter if its a stationary, laptop or HTPC they are all supposed to perform at all times with the smallest amount cooling possible. That equation does not really go together that well, todays computer parts put out a amazing amount of heat so there will be noise until we figure out another way to keep the parts cool.

Today I am going to try to build a HTPC that is as quiet as possible but still performs quite well. For this I have gathered a bundle of sponsors that were willing to help me out with silent parts. I remember the times when the Pentium 2 and 3 came out, the computers barely made any noise even though they performed well, now we are pushing out so much performance that the parts overheat quite easily even with the right cooling components.

When you take a look at silent parts you will find a huge amount of various products that CLAIM to be silent by the are not in the end. I would like to thank the following sponsors for sponsoring this project and I really want you guys to take a look at their products when you are going to buy something new for your setup.

Sponsors:

Sponsored us with a processor for this project, they have a huge amount of various product in their store with superb support. I really recommend these guys!

Corsair sponsored us with 4GB or DDR2 that we can use in our setup.

MSI sponsored us with a motherboard that is fanless and only runs with heatsinks, so now annoying tiny little fans on the motherboard. Well recommended company if you want a stable motherboard or videocard.

Asus really doesnt need any introduction, they provded us with a fanless videocard for our tests. EAH 3650 SILENT will be sitting in this setup.

This project would be nothing if it wasnt for Noctua, they came in and got me a cpu cooler and fans for the case. These are absolutely the best fans we have tested on Rbmods. I would not use anything else in my setups when it comes to silence and performance!

Here we got all parts collected even though we ended up with a different case in the end. The V9 case was our first test subject and even though it did a good job the harddrive vibrations just killed the whole project and therefore we got another case.
