Mp3 players- what should you look for?
I have worked at an Mp3 company before, (not to mention any names) and I have somewhat of an idea of what to look for when it comes to an mp3 player. I worked as support crew which gives me an idea what people are looking for in general.
There are loads and loads of different players out there; Creative, Ipod, JOS, Sandisk, Iriver, Iaudio and tons of smaller companies that sell other generic mp3 players.
They have all released an assortment of different players with different features, which leaves the consumer clueless as to what they should purchase.
To start with I would recommend people going for USB2 on their mp3 players to be able to transfer the songs information, etc… to the player as fast as possible.

However, at this time though a lot of players are still limited by the flash memory which is a bottleneck even with USB2.
USB2 is still something that should be aimed for as the newer players have faster memory and more and more memory space. Hopefully the companies can get this matter fixed because for the consumer it’s no fun to sit and wait for 10 minutes to be able to fill the mp3 player with songs. I would personally recommend a built in USB port also in the mp3 player since many people tend to loose the usb cable or the small usb adapter. It is also easier that way since you don’t have to carry those around with you and you are still able to transfer new information on to your player even at a friend’s house.
Next is the display itself and the menu system. It’s pretty basic since everyone wants the display to be as big as possible but the player to still be small. The menu system though is something you should play around with a bit in the store if possible to see how easy it is to use. Many companies tend to forget to put some effort into this and even with a manual consumers cannot figure basic things out just because of a completely messed up and illogical menu system. We cannot forget that the menu system runs the whole player and having a messy system ruins the whole experience.
What else is there to talk about? Well we also have the memory size. A lot and I mean A LOT of people tend to buy 256 or 512 mb mp3 players and 3 months later they wish that they would have bought a 1gb one. Mp3 songs have gotten bigger lately with the better quality and even longer songs which gives you less space on your mp3 player.

The player also works a flash disk that you can store information on and that’s something most don’t think about and on 256 mb you don’t save much at all so I would recommend to save another 50$ and buy a player with more memory.
What about flash or harddrive mp3 players?
The positive things with small flash based players are that they are so small, you can bring them pretty much anywhere. With harddrive based ones you have a chance of breaking it quite easily by just bumping or dropping it. The HD based ones are better for home usage, or travelling, but not jogging or anywhere where the chance is big that something might happen with them. Flash players are also cheaper with the smaller memory and I just saw that they have even made t-shirts with built in headphones for a flash player so you never have to bother about the cords. Let’s just hope the headphones are good quality!
