MMPORG just an addictive game genre?

We all have once or twice heard about MMPORG games. For example WOW, EQ, AC2 etc etc etc. I could count several more online games which are of this type of genre. What I will discuss with you today is whether or not these games are bad and addictive? Are they just games or are they actually a lifestyle? After spending countless hours in front of Dark age of Camelot, Everquest 2, and World of Warcraft I count myself as a somewhat experienced player in this genre of games. I’m writing this article from the Munich International Airport in Germany while waiting for the connecting flight to Chicago so excuse me if there are some mistakes. These types of games people either love or hate, they can break marriages, people get fired due to late arrivals to work etc. So is it just bad things included with games like this? Many people would say yes to this question although I disagree on this matter.
Tip of the day!!
MMPROG gaming brings people from all over the world together, you get a chance to know people even from the weirdest places in the world and you also get to practice languages, manners, and the great feature called teamwork. This helps people evolve to work together in real life, and you get to know people that you would even perhaps call your enemy in any other circumstance. But as said before there are also dark sides with this; people have died due to lack of sleep and just lost everything in their life because of the addiction to these games.

So what do you really do in them? You start up by selecting a character which you name and start to level and build up on. The leveling and gathering better gear is probably the most addictive thing in the game because there is always new gear or level to get so you never run out of things to do. I do know several people though that actually got bored with the game but still play it just because of the good friends they have made online. Guilds even get together for bigger gatherings and spend time together. Basically you get so much from the gaming even though it seems very childish. I believe that you have to be able to control it as when you lose control it becomes very dangerous. You cannot let this get in the way of spending time with your family and friends because they will sooner or later leave you and when the kick from the gaming is over you are left all alone.
Remember that all these thoughts are just my own personal opinions and ideas.

When do you notice that you are addicted to a game? Well when you start cancelling real life plans in your schedule and locking yourself in the bedroom feeling that you just cannot stop the playing. I personally know some people that have had the problem of putting the game before everything else. The site Everquest widows really shows the problem. As said before it's a very low percentage that gets so deep into it that they loose it all. Should we blame the game creators then? I don't think so since all they do is offer a game that is challenging and very creative, it's the human personality that for some reason just can't handle it.

If you play World of warcraft on the European Al'akir server and see a lvl60 druid named Bruul stay away :) What I have kind of wanted to bring out with this is that there are both bad and good things about games like this. Merely a few percent are severely addicted to the gaming and you have to remember that you get so much from playing when you play the right amounts of time.

Good games:

Everquest 2 14,45$
Dark age of camelot 5$ (old but still good)

I link to the games as they are games I can recommend, remember though try not to play to much or you might get caught in the mmporg jungle.

I'm almost expecting some flaming so plese discuss this review further in our forums.
