Zalman ZM400B-APF noiseless powerupply

We reviewed the "A" version of this power supply awhile back. We recieved this newer version to review so we could make a comparison of these two power supplys. We will look into what is better or worse in the new one. Zalman is well known for their silent products so this power supply should not be any different from the other products :)

About Zalman:

Despite the fact that computers have become commonplace at home and at workplaces for a long time, true user friendliness of the computers are still a long shot. At Zalman Tech, we strive to make that goal a closer reality through extensive research and development of our products. We were the world first in reducing computer's noise down to lower than 20dB, thus creating a more user friendly computing environment. Now you can use a computer without distracting noise and also form high fidelity audio system or home theatre without ambient noise with one. Zalman Tech will continue to put efforts to creating more enhanced levels of user friendliness in computing; we believe we have sufficient ability and determination.

Specifications on the product:

All the specifications can be found on the Zalman homepage. The exact link is http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/zm400b-apf.htm

A very nice package for this power supply. The power supply itself was also covered in bubble plastic to protect it from damages. The back of the package is pretty plain and only has the name and a link to the Zalman website.

Included is a manual of course and a Zalman multi connector so you can connect pretty much anything to the power supply and not to forget a power cable which in my case is a European one. Quote from Zalmans homepage "The Muti-connector, included free in every Zalman power supply, is used to supply +5V or +12V power to any additional fans that a user may wish to install. Connect it to the power supply's output connector (P9) and simply attach the fans to the 3-pin connectors at the other end. "

The power supply comes in a nice black color that matches several cases nowadays. There was four pieces of velcro included. On the right we have the interesting info. It supplies 18 A @ 12V and 40 A @ 5V the rest you can see yourself :). The older "A" supply only had a output of 15 A @ 12V so that is a upgrade on this newer one.

This power supply is runs on full range which means that you don't need to switch a switch when you move from US to Europe or whatever. All you need to do is to plug it in and take it out for a spin :) The fan is VERY quiet and you have to put your ear near to it to be able to hear anything. On the other side of the PSU we have a grill to prevent the power supply from getting to hot.
