Zalman CNPS 9700 LED CPU Cooler

The 120mm fan is a LED fan with blue leds as we can see, on quiet mode the fan is extremely quiet and I even personally have one of these in my rig. Overall so far it looks good but the most important part still remains which is the testing part so stay tuned.

Testing:

AMD AM2 4800+
ECS Extreme KN3 SLI2
2*1 GB OCZ Platinum DDR2
Sapphire X300
Maxtor 160 IDE HDD 7200 RPM
Zalman 460W APS PSU

Testing was done with ambient temperature at 23 Celsius. Idle temps were taken while running Windows in idle mode and full loads temperatures were taken after running loops of Pcmark2005.

4800+ Stock speed:

These temperatures are taken while fan is running at default speed. We can see that vs the Coolermaster Hyper 6+ these heatsinks are superior at stock speed at least. Both the 9500 and the 9700 are in this test running at the same temperature. Even without a fan controller the fan is not extremely loud but I would recommend a fan controller if you plan on running a quiet computer.

4800@5000+ has a 0.25V raise in Vcore just to see what type of results we can expect after raising the voltage. More volts mean more heat of course and as we can see even in this test the Hype6+ can be left out as it's out performed by the Zalman coolers. The interesting thing here is that the new 9700 does perform a few degrees better than the older brother 9500.

Testing shows that both heatsinks are really well performing but the new 9700 has performed a few degrees better under overclocking. Both heatsinks have been mounted the same and used the same thermal paste so that is not the issue, the 9700 is performing better so far. We have one more test left and that is to see how the heatsink performs with the fan at 5V so click on the next page to see the test results and conclusion.
