Zalman CNPS 9700 LED CPU Cooler
Awhile back Zalman had a bigseller named CNPS 9500 LED, with the new heatsink design and extremely silent fan they were able to make a cpu cooler wanted by pretty much every computer user on the market. Today we have a new cooler named 9700 LED which is supposed to be a even better heatsink with Am2 and Core 2 Duo for example, they also provide their own thermal paste which is supposed to be very good according to them. We will test this vs the older 9500 LED and vs a Coolermaster heatsink to see how this new product can perform.
About Zalman:

In order for this to be achieved, the computer must first become more user-friendly.

At Zalman Tech, we strive to make that goal a closer reality through extensive research and development of our products. We were the world's first in reducing computer noise down to lower than 20dB, thus creating a more user-friendly computing environment. Now it is possible to use a computer without distracting noise and to form high fidelity audio system or home theatre system without ambient noise.

This new 9700 cooler comes in a similar box as the older 9500. It has a blue color scheme and you can see the cooler before buying it.
On the back there is some information about the cpu cooler, so far it looks like they have upgraded the cooler just for the new cpu sockets.

Inside you will find a small white box with mounting clips, screws, thermal paste, and fan controller. The thermal paste comes in a white small glas jar and when you open it up you have a small paint brush on the handle so you can almost "paint" it on the cpu. It looks very similar to a nail polish bottle actually.

The design is excatly the same on the older 9500 as this new 9700, and I have to agree with them why change a winning concept.
The big round heatsink design makes it possible to have heat all over instead in one piece of the heatsink and the fan keeps the whole thing cooled of due to the fact that it's mounted in the center of the heatsink. The heat transfer is made with heatpipes from the copper core which is one of the best materials to trasnfer heat.

The fan is well postioned enough so it only has to cover one of the sides of the heatsink. The heatpipes and the copper core are all extremely well made, awesome lapping work there on the core with no dents or scratches and you can see yourself in it which is not common with most heatsinks today.
