Vizo Xena Notebook Cooler Review
A while ago, we examined Vizo’s Ninja Notebook Cooler and had mixed opinions about its design and set of features. Vizo has returned to the notebook cooler game with a newer model, the Xena Notebook Cooler, which offers additional features including a bay for a backup hard drive. Will it be enough to propel it to the top? Let’s find out.

The Vizo Xena Notebook cooler arrived in a sturdy, well-designed box with a nice picture of the cooler on the front. The back of the package has a detailed list of features and specifications, emphasizing the fact that this is the world’s first and only notebook cooler with a 2.5” backup hard drive bay and a one-touch backup function.

Opening up the package, the cooler is securely held in-place by a two custom foam inserts. Along with the cooler, the package comes with a hard drive tray, a power adapter, a USB cable, a user’s manual, and an installation CD.

Taking a closer look at the cooler, the Xena cooler looks similar in many ways to the previously reviewed Ninja, with two 70mm fans that provide the airflow for the cooler. The cooler has a nice, light-weight aluminum design that is good for thermal conductivity. The power switch and connector is located on the rear of the cooler for easy access. I like how the bottom of the cooler is completely enclosed to discourage any finger contact with the fans. The cooler also has some large rubber feet that should anchor it into any desk.

Looking at the back of the cooler, the features of the Xena cooler really stand out; the addition of a 3-port USB hub and the one-touch backup capability (more on this later). The hub is something that I noted was missing from the Ninja cooler, so I’m glad to see Vizo address this potential shortcoming. Also of note is that there is an additional DC IN port, which indicates that the cooler needs to be supplied external power, only when a hard drive is installed.
