Vizo Lan Dock (Multi-Function USB2.0 Lan Dock)
While geared more towards Laptop users, a port replicator can be a useful device to any computer user. That's why today I'll be taking a look at Vizo's Multi-Function USB 2.0 Lan Dock. With 4 USB 2.0 ports, 2 PS/2 ports, a Serial port and Ethernet port, it has plenty of connectivity. None of that will really matter though if you can't even get the device to work... So, why don't we go ahead and get on with the review.

The box is fairly plain, on the front is a picture of the Lan Dock as well as a bit of information on the product. On the back are a few more pictures showing all the different connections, as well as a full list of all the features..

Inside everything is securely packed ensuring that nothing can jostle around and get damaged. Included with the Lan Dock is USB 2.0 A-B cable, AC adapter, driver CD and manual.

The Lan Dock itself is very compact in size. The top portion contains all of the indicator LEDs with icons telling you what each LED is for. On the front are the 4 USB 2.0 which can be used for all peripherals and is fully backwards compatible with USB 1.1.
On the back you have the 2 PS/2 ports, 10/100 Ethernet port and a Serial port. The PS/2 ports are for a mouse and keyboard. The serial port can be used for PDAs or mobile phones. Then the Ethernet port is for hooking into a network/Internet.

On the side is the 5V connector for use with the included AC adapter to draw power. There's also the USB port which will connect the Dock to your home PC or laptop, power can also be drawn from here.
Installing the needed port replicator software takes less than a minute and requires a reboot. After that you're ready to plug the device into your PC/Laptop, Windows should now automatically install the needed USB and lan drivers. All of this takes no more than a few minutes and to ensure everything is working you can just look in your device manager.
I had the Lan Dock connect to my home PC; I ran my Internet, mouse, keyboard and digital camera all through the dock without any problems or slowdowns. The lan port was instantly recognized as LAN 3 and I just connected like I would normally. No issues whatsoever with my PS/2 keyboard and USB mouse. There was absolutely no slow down while transferring pictures from my digital camera as opposed to having it directly connected to my PC.
Conclusion:
Well, I'm actually a little surprised at how well this device worked and just how easy it was to get up and running. Any laptop owners out there that doesn't currently have a port replicator, or even if your laptop doesn't have enough USB ports should definitely think about making this purchase. Home PC users can still make great use of this product too. Having the convenience of being able to add devices to your PC without having to constantly go behind it is always good.
