Vizo Master Panel II Review

Looking at the back of the panel, there are a number of different connector ports where the different cables get connected. The connectors are all pretty accessible, but the only thing I would have changed would be to label the connectors so that you don’t have to refer to the manual when connecting the cables. Normally that’s not a problem, but the fact that there are so many cables needing connection makes this a potential improvement.

Speaking of cables, there are 9 different ones that need to be connected in order to unleash the full potential of the panel. They all have decent length and have good connectors, but once again my only grip was that they could have been labeled.

Installing the Master Panel II was fairly straightforward as you can imagine, as long as you do one thing first; that is, connect all the cables to the panel side. Because once it’s in the computer you’ll have a harder time reaching the cables. After figuring out how to connect the cables to the panel, the entire setup is installed into the computer in a spare drive bay. One thing to note; the fan controller knobs do stick out a bit, so if you have a case that has a closing front door, you might have some interference issues. I would have liked to have seen push-in knobs here, which would have prevented the problem.

After the panel is in the bay, all that remains is connecting the cables to the computer. Unfortunately, since there are really a lot of cables, it makes a little bit of a mess inside your computer. But that really can’t be avoided, and with some careful routing and use of cable ties the cables are manageable.

Once I got everything hooked up and turned on, the computer immediately found all the drives and was able to correctly install the drivers. Transfer rates were the same as with any USB 2.0 reader or similar device.

Conclusion:

The Vizo Master Panel II is a versatile product that provides a great deal of functionality to your computer build. Having a card reader, fan controller, and USB/peripheral ports all in the front makes everyday computer use a lot easier. The product has a clean design and is pretty easy to install. Despite a couple of minor issues that I noted in the review, overall I think the Vizo Master Panel II deserves consideration for your next PC build.

Pros:

+ Versatile design with wide range of features
+ Easy to install
+ Accepts wide variety of card formats
+ Dual fan controllers
+ USB/Firewire/eSATA ports on the front.

Cons:

- Knobs can cause interference if the case has a front door
- Cables/connectors lack labels
