TomTom GO 930 Review

If you are going to be driving for a longer period of time I think that you need to setup a comfortable voice to give you directions. This unit offers a variety of voices and you can even download more of them for a low cost. Two voices I found quite funny are Austin Powers and Darth Vader from Starwars. It's easy to change voices, and you get to test each voice before you choose it.

The device only took about 15 seconds to boot up and find my position, this is outside my apartment and something that is supposed to be between the roads is a railroad. I noticed that it appeared when I drove up the street though, but it seems either like a bug or just a mistake when creating the maps.
The menus react very fast and changing page is not a problem. There is no lag or delay and even the touch screen reacts with a simple touch but they still require a bit of a push so you won't accidently open the wrong menu up. The first part of the main menu offers you to navigate, help, connect to your celphone or just change preferences.

The main menu page 2 on the other hand offers your to prepare your route, browse map, map corrections, add favorites or to play around in the music and media menu. In the music and media menu you can play around with a jukebox function and it also has some type of Itunes supports built in.
The last part of the main menu offers you to setup TomTom traffic which allows you to receive traffic information. This function along with a few other functions costs money as you will notice when you scroll around in the menus. You can also view your route or just plan your itinierary.

In the set units menu you can set if you want the device to show kilometers or miles just as example. Since I am left handed I liked the feature where I could activate the menus to be made for a left handed person and as an example the "Done" button moved over to the left which made it way easier for me to use the device from the driver seat. Something new is also the Toll road preferences as we see more and more of those road tolls.
Ofcourse you can also set volume, startup preferences, music preferences also to customize it after your needs.

The other menus show various route information that you can browse through. When you have choosen your route it will show it to you and show how far it is between and how long the planned drive will actually take. On the right picture in the top right corner you also got the battery indicator that shows how long you got left on the battery and below that you have the indicator that shows how many satellites you are hooked up with.

If you click on the left picture it will open up in a bigger version and since my house is a few minutes outside town there is not that much to show but there are some gas stations and railroad markings. The right picture on the other hand is very important for you to check, it shows you the satelittes you have a connection to, the more there are the accurate they show your positioning.
Conclusion:
I like the GPS even though it has some cons that I find quite annoying. Several of the cool new functions costs money to subscribe to, also I found a couple of map bugs. The windshield holder really stinks in my eyes, why can't they do a real holder that won't bounce around and you can feel safe with. There are several cool functions though that I have not see any other GPS devices that have like, lane switch function, cool voices etc. The question is though is it worth the 500$? I feel it's the same as with all other top of the line products, if you want to be on top and have the latest fashion go for it, I doubt you will regret anything as this will follow you for several years. The menus respond quick and the software in general has worked like a charm without any bugs or lagging.
Overall the whole thing feel like high quality and I am glad TomTom has agreed to give this away in a giveaway coming soon.
