Thermaltake T-type, Aquarius II VGA Waterblock, Water Level Indicator & Flow Indicator

Today we are having a look at four different watercooling products from Thermaltake which can be used in the Thermaltake Bigwater kit for example. We are looking at one VGA block which can be used on almost any ATi and nVidia card and then we also have three other very useful products, a water temperature indicator, a water tank and a flow indicator. Let's begin!

About Thermaltake:

You can check up their history over here.

As I said in my Zalman VF700 review, it's always nice to see what you are actually buying. We have the LCD placed on the top, the indicator in the middle and the included extra barbs at the bottom. On the back we have specifactions and some features printed. This example was made on 29 December 2004. ;)

The package includes a extra pair of 3/8" and 1/2" quick connector barbs (a pair of 1/4" are already installed), some velcro which you can use to mount the LCD anywhere you want, the LCD display, installation guides and the water temperature indicator.

The indicator is a pretty simple construction as we can see, the thermal probe goes into a fitting which has a hole on the top of course, then the fitting is screwed into the main block. You will see how the fitting sticks out a bit on the inside of the block in the coming pictures. Anyway, the water warms up the fitting and the thermal probe takes its temperatures. You can also see that the thermal probe has thermal paste on it, which will help to get more accurate readings.

Well, here you can see what I was talking about earlier about the fitting. The bad thing with this design is that it will cut down some on the flow, and most of us would agree that a better flow will result in better temperatures on the CPU, GPU etc. The probe itself could just have been glued on a 1/4" barb and then be mounted at the same way as the fitting is now. Another thing which is bad with this design is that a fan which accidently blows on the fitting, could result in wrong temperatures.

The LCD unit is a pretty simple construction too. It has 2 buttons on each side which you can press on too switch on the display or off, a reset button for reseting the min/max temperature, button for switching between Celsius and Fahrenheit or see the maximum/minimum recorded temperature. Well, we do also have a adjustable pot at the lower right corner for adjusting of the the alarm temperature. If someone wonder how long the power cable and the cable for the probe are, they are ~75cm versus ~70cm. Second picture, we can see some of the internal alarm speaker.

So here we have the LCD on and when everything is "OK" the background is blue, but if the temperature gets too high the background will switch to a dark pink color and give a constant alarm, which acctualy could have been a bit louder in my opinion.

Conclusion:

The product does its job. I will give it 4 of 5 stars and our recommendation although it's flaws. You can always modify it with some glue and creativity, which I will do. :)

Pros:

+ Easy to install and use
+ Feels accurate
+ Updates about every second
+ Blue LCD
+ Included 3/8" and 1/2" barbs
+ Can take out the probe and use it at some other location, like tape it on the chipset heatsink etc..
+ You can see the minimum and maximum temperature ever recorded
+ Can be installed nearly anywhere with that included velcro

Cons:

- The probe itself should have been in direct contact with the water
- The alarm could have been much louder

Red&Blackness gives it 4 out of 5 dots
