Thermaltake Tr2-m4 cpu cooler

Tonite we are having a look at a weird Thermaltake cooler that Xpcases sent us. This seems to be a copy of Aero series from Coolermaster. We will test it and see how this can perform a Swiftech heatsink. It has a speed regulator so you can run it loud or "quiet". Let's have a closer look.

It came in one of these annoying plastic packages and I thought that I would have to get a chainsaw or something but the package was very easy to open compared to others. On the back as usual there is some information and specifications on the cooler.

Included in the package was the cooler itself with a fan speed controller and a small paper manual. The RPM controller is a nice thing that allows you to control the speed of the the fan. You can either run it on low so you get a "quiet" cooler or whichever you prefer. Beware full speed though as it runs on 41dB. You mount the fan speed controller above a PCI slot.

We can see that the fan is very similar to the Aero series fan that Coolermaster also has. We can see that Thermaltake also takes on shot on the design, and to try to make great coolers as Coolermaster. The heatsink looks very good and is a solid aluminum heatsink that should work very well since they have equipped it with a copper core to get maximum heat transfer from the CPU.

The clip system could be better but this one works also. You have a little spot where you push the scredriver down to push the clip into place. Installation was very easy if you just take you time and take it easy. On the right picture we can see the nice bottom of the heatsink. It's protected by a plastic cover and they have already put some generic thermal compound so you can just install it right away. I prefer to remove this and put some better compound on. We can see though that the copper part is pretty thick and will easily transfer heat from the CPU to the heatsink itself.
