Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W PSU Review

As I said before this PSU has four 12V rails from 20A to a amazing 36A. The 5V and 3,3V rails also have an amazing 30A each to play with.

Testing:

Intel QX6700 CPU
Asus P5K3 Deluxe
Corsair Twinx3x2048-1600 DDR3
Western Digital Caviar 16Mb SATA HDD
OCZ GameXstream 700W

Rails were measured with a multimeter and load results were taken looping 3dmark Vantage. Today we are comparing this PSU vs Coolermasters M1000 and RS620W PSU“s.

3,3V Testing:

The 3.3V rail was rock stable even under heavy load. We gave it our best efforts but the rail still remained at the 3.34V.

5V Testing:

The 5V rail flickers between the 5.14 and 5.13 even under idle use.

12V Testing:

The 12V rail had some flickering between 12.2V and 12.1V. 80% of the time it stayed at 12.2V though which I see as acceptable.

Conclusion:

This PSU is is a powerhouse, I find it hard to believe that there are actually more efficient PSU“s for the price that you can get this for. Of course 330$ USD can scare most people of but personally if you invest the money you have a future proof PSU that offers up to 8 PCI-E power connectors. What I also find sweet is that the PSU does not make anymore noise than any other lower performing PSU on the market. It stays cool and I can for sure live with the noise it makes since the chipset fans usually tend to make way more noise than this PSU.

I think that the price is the only real con right now. 330$ is alot of money for the normal user, this is covered by all the pros though with a nice modular system, low noise fan, extreme power output and a high qualiy chassis.

Pros:

+ Stays cool
+ Modular
+ Well packed
+ Extreme power output
+ Up to 6 PCI-E connectors

Cons:

- Price
- Size
