Swiftech Mcb-120 Radiator holder

Not enough space in your case for a water rig? Don't want to mod the case to get space? Then check this review out as we have a radiator holder from Swiftech on the test bench tonight. This little gadget is mounted on the back of the case on a fan slot and you will be able to mount a fan and radiator on it. Sounds interesting? check this out then!

About Swiftech:

Swiftech was founded in 1994 by Gabriel Rouchon as a Maintenance and R&D Organization for high-end Unix computers and imaging systems. Early 1998 when Intel® Corporation introduced the Celeron®, we immediately became heavily involved in overclocking. Our engineering background allowed us to develop our own cooling solutions, using OEM products with the introduction of the MC2 sandwich cooler. By the fall of 98, we realized that air cooling was not going to satisfy our clients ever increasing need for speed, and during the course of investigating thermo-electric (Peltier) cooling technology, we immediately recognized the potential application to CPU cooling. Since there was no serious implementation of this technology commercially available to the personal computer industry, we started our own assembly, focusing on engineering specs rather than economics. The result was the first commercially available Active Cooler using thermo-electric technology to actually perform as intended: the MC1000, introduced in the spring of 99, which quickly became a world standard. The year 2000 became a turning point in our growth. AMD had just introduced their latest generation Duron and TBird processors, Intel® was coming out with the Pentium® 4, and these new processors radiated twice as much heat as their predecessors. Because we had engineered heatsinks capable of dissipating the combined heat generated by a CPU and a Peltier element, we found ourselves in an excellent position to offer high-end, air-cooled solutions to dissipate the heat generated by these new processors. A string of articles written by leading hardware review sites on the Internet recognized Swiftech socket coolers as the most effective cooling solutions available on the market. Following the sky-rocketing demand, we developed our own manufacturing facility in Southern California in the fall of 2000. Swiftech is now 20 people strong, and operates in a 6,000 Sq Ft facility located in Signal Hill (Southern California). All our heatsinks and water cooling solutions are entirely machined on site, using state-of-the-art CNC equipment.

Specifications:

2 parts construction: holding plate and housing for ease of installation
Multiple slots for vertical and horizontal adjustments
Bolts directly to 60mm, 80mm, 92mm or 120mm fan holes
Custom pass-thru PCI bracket and adapters for 1/2" OD tubing (3/8" ID), designed for use with either quick-connect or conventional fittings such as worm-drive clamps included with kit.

A small gadget but still has tons of small parts for mounting etc. I have to say it's nice that even the tubing is included to have between the radiator and the PCI slot fittings. Swiftech decided to include some coolsleeving to wrap around the tubing to give it a better look also :)

The mounting is actually easier than it looks as all you have to do is mount the holder on the case and the PCI bracket in the back with the fittings mounted on it. SOmething I found very poistive is that you can use pretty much any case for this since there are several ways to mount it. Recommended though is a fan slot on the back with a slot for a 120 mm fan. When you get the product the radiator holder is in two pieces as seen on the right picture and the thin back plate is what you mount on the case and then you put the rest on. The manual seen on the right picture explains this very well and you won't have any problems doing this procedure.

My old Aopen big tower did not have a 120 mm fan slot so I decided to try to mount it on the smaller 80 mm fan slots and as you can see it does work also. Throw a fan and a radiator on this and you are ready to go, personally I feel that a fan might not be needed when the radiator is in the back of the case.

Another picture where you can mount the radiator a different way although this way you can only use 2 screws to tighten it with but this is just something I have tried myself so it's not recommended!
