SteelSeries SteelSound 3H Headset Review

Improving upon a successful produce line is usually hard to do. Steelseries, makers of a wide range of gaming accessories, is attempting to do just that with the release of two new SteelSound headsets that offer different features than their already successful SteelSound 5H v2 headset. We are fortunate enough to get an opportunity to test them out prior to their release. Today we’ll be looking at the SteelSound 3H headset, which is the smallest of these new headsets. Will its smaller size and price hamper its quality and performance? Read on to find out more.

About Steelseries:

SteelSeries is all about gaming. Our mission is to create performance enhancing gaming gear, created for and by leading professional gamers. We continuously strive to better ourselves, and work with leading professional gamers from 3 different continents to create our products.

The SteelSound 3H headset came in a colorful package clearly displaying the headset in the front. The back of the headset provided a list of features/specifications in multiple languages.

Opening the package, the headset can be found secured to the molded cardboard container. The package simply contains the headset along with some information about SteelSeries’ other product offerings. No carrying case or bag is provided, which can be found in other headsets.

Looking at the headset closer, the first thing that impressed me was how small it was when folded down. I like how the headset stays in once piece when compacting it, as opposed to having to disassembling it. The headset can easily fit inside a jacket pocket. The earpieces aren’t as large as the 5H but are still good size, and the shape of them is contoured to match the shape of an ear. While the headband doesn’t have any padding, it is made of a soft fabric and shouldn’t cause any headaches.

The headset cord is 2 meter long, which should provide plenty of length for most applications. The contacts are gold-plated for an improved connection. Unfortunately, one feature that is absent from the cord that I liked on the 5H is the cord remote control, which isn’t that big of a deal but is a nice feature that comes in handy from time to time.
