Steelpad 4D

We reviewed a Steelpad awhile back and tonite we are having a look at the 4D pad that the released. Its a different kind of pad since its not made out of steel as the original steelpad. This one is in plastic so it might work a bit better than the original one. The pad seems intresting with its size and and two different surfaces.

About Sofftrading:

Check out their webiste @ www.softtrading.info

Specifications:

Light, slim, great size, sticks to the table, two different surfaces.
Description: Length 290 mm - Width 257 mm - made from plastic - Thickness 2 mm (base included)

I could already feel that this pad was going to be different from the old one when I got this since it weighed alot less. This package is just a cover for the pad itself. On the back there is some info printed but there are no specificaitons.

The pad comes with a rubber pad that you put under the actual mousepad to prevent it from sliding around on the table. This is instead of the feet on the mousepad that are usually on it already. I prefer the feet instead of this. You can see a closeup on the rubber pad on the right picture...

Another closeup. The pad has two sides so you can choose whichever you prefer. The rough side is not fun to play with since you really have to move your mouse around alot. On each side of the pad they have printed the Steelpad logo as seen on the right picture.

On the left we have the rough surface which I prefer not to use! The right picture shows the good shiny surface which works pretty good. This pad has a problem though and that is that it makes noise when you move the mouse around. Alot of plastic pads do that but this was a annoying sound that was there even when moving the mouse slowly around. The pad works good for gaming though and for normal daily usage. The big problem with this pad is the rubber pad that is loose which you have to position under the pad from time to time.

Conclusion:

This is a good pad that works very good over-all. There are a few flaws though if you use this for gaming. The rubber pad is not attached to the mousepad which from time to time gives the mousepad the ability to move around abit. Then the pad also makes an annoying noise which often hard plastic pads do. I have to say though that this mousepad is a good pad that cost only around 15$ so everyone can afford it. The good thing about it is that it's big and the rubber pad really does stay on the table. By attaching the rubber to the mousepad it would be impossible to move the mousepad around. Well maybe they can do this in the future. All in all we give this a 3 out of 5 for a cheap mousepad which works very well for over-all usage.

Pros:

+ Big
+ Light weight and wont break
+ Cheap

Cons:

- Rubber pad is not attached to the pad
- Annoying noise when moving the mouse around

Red&Blackness gives it 3 out of 5 dots
