Silverstone SST-ST40EF 400W Power Supply
With todays more demanding videocards and computers, the need for a good and stable power supply is high. Many manufacturers claim theirs are the best and that you need a 700W PSU to be able to get a stable computer. Well in many cases this is not true, Silverstone sent us a sample of their latest creation a SST-ST40EF which is a 400W power supply. It comes with "only" two 12V rails when most manufacturers create ones with three or even four 12V rails. Can this one work aswell as the others? Will it be able to keep a computer stable with only 400W and two 12 rails? Well this is what we are here to figure out today.

Our package got a bit smashed by the post office but that did not injure the power supply itself which is quite amazing. It's a nice box if not smashed of course, you have the Silverstone logo and also a picture of the product iself. If you feel like it you can also read features and specifications on the PSU on it.
With the power supply you will get a small zip lock bag with four screws for mounting, a manual, and a power cable which in my case is a standard european one I beleive.

Included is also a 24 to 20 pin adapter which I find very good as you give the consumer a chance to use it on older motherboards also. The case is black on this PSU and as we can see all the cables are held together while shipping with a zip tie. The voltages can be seen on a sticker on the side of the power supply itself. Two 12V rails on 16 and 18A each, I believe you can see the rest for yourself.
There are discussions about how to make a PSU review and we are trying to find some decent priced equipment to try to make some deeper PSU reviews.

This is not a modular power supply as you might have seen, alot of manufcatureres have turned away from this due to connection problems which lower the performance and stability.
They have mounted a 120 mm fan on the bottom of the PSU, according to the sticker on it it's a Silverstone/ADDA AD1212MS-A71GL fan. We are going to say a few words about how loud it is later during the testing phase of the review.
