Sennheiser HD555

When I picked up my new mouse I also picked up some new headphones for myself. I thought I should squeeze them into a review also. I got a pair of Sennheiser HD555 which are very popular headphones, this is so because you get them for a decent price and you get some really good performance with them also. These are as close to a pair of studio heaphones you can get with a price like this according to alot of people that have written comments about them so we will see what type of sound we can get out of them.

About Sennheiser:

For 60 years, the name Sennheiser has been synonymous with top-quality products and tailor-made complete solutions for every aspect of the recording, transmission and reproduction of sound. In 1945, Dr. Fritz Sennheiser together with seven engineers and technicians set out on the venture to found a new company. The research and development specialists converted their university institute, which had been moved during the war to the small village of Wennebostel, into what became known as "Labor W", and it was there that they began to build measuring instruments.

Less than a year later, microphones were added to their product range, and soon the resourceful team became extremely successful in numerous fields of audio technology.

Sennheiser has always put alot of effort into their packages, they know that the outside is the first thing that appeals to the consumer. Having just a white plain box does not look professional nor like a product people want to buy. Therefore they have put some effort into it and came up with this box that shows the product on the front and on the back. Also on front you can read about the product itself with specifications and features.

The box opens up and uncovers the headphones, this is the first product I have seen doing something like this. The headphones are a bit bigger than normal "bigger" headphones like Phillips HD etc. They don't feel heavy though at all so far, and we will get into that a bit later in the review.

I find it funny that Sennheiser has chosen to use 6.3mm connector as standard instead of 3.5 mm, does this mean that they focus on people that use the headphones on receivers, or cd players? As I see it these headphones can be used on mp3, cd, or with computers and that means a 3.5mm connector should be the standard. On the top a big Sennheiser logo is also printed.
