Raidsonic Icy Box IB-3218StU-B Review

Today we are taking a look at a SATA enclosure that has room for up to two SATA drives, this device runs through your USB interface which makes it compatible with most computers out on the market. This product comes from Raidsonic which we have not been in contact with before so it's going to be very interesting to see how this device works and what type of quality we can expect from this product.

About Raidsonic:

RaidSonic was created 1999. In a dynamic growth process the enterprise developed itself further continuously in the product range and number of employees. In May 2004 by a permanent change of station the premises are adapted to the risen requirements. After large success in Germany a strong expansion in the European market lines up.

As a manufacturer RaidSonic has direct influence on the product design, both in the quality and in the optical Design. By the consistent use of high-quality components and materials the products already took a firm position in market segment elevated by Raidsonic.

I don't know where the name Icy Box comes from but my guess is that the enclosure should stay very cool? The box is very nice and you can see what the unit looks like since they have printed a picture on the box, all around it you can see the specifications and features in different languages. Inside you will find a manual and a cd with software and drivers for Win98.

This unit does not power through the USB port so you get a AC adapter along with the cable that goes between the unit and the adapter. Of course you need a USB cable to hook this up with your computer and that is also included along with 8 screws so you can mount the drives on the bracket securely.

The enclosure itself is a bit longer than the drives but it still remains quite little in my eyes. The case itself is made out of steel and the front is equipped with a a fan grill to vent out the hot air out of the enclosure.

The case is about 7.5 inches long or 19 cm if you prefer that. It stands on two feet which makes it a bit higher but you will be able to squeeze this into pretty much any hole on your desk.

In the back you will have the DC In plugin, USB and the On/Off switch. A small 40 mm fan is mounted in the back also and the noise level on this fan is ok but I would like either a bigger fan or a higher quality 40 mm fan that will make less noise.
