OCZ Evostream 600W PSU Review
Test Setup:
Intel P4, 2.8GHz Dual Core
ECS P4M800-Pro Motherboard
2 GB OCZ PC2-6400 DDR2 RAM
GeForce 7600GS
Western Digital 250 GB 7200 rpm harddrive
Hitachi 80GB SATA harddrive
Sony DVD player
Testing was done by measuring the voltages at the connectors with a multimeter. Idle voltages were taken running Windows and full loads were taken while running 3dmark2005. Results of similar tests on a previously reviewed Nextherm 460W PSU and Spire 500W PSU are included for comparison.
5V Testing:
Similarly, the 5V rail was also solid. Amazingly, I didn’t notice any drop in voltage after increasing the computer load to full, and the results were rock-solid. Impressive.
12V Testing:
Once again, the Evostream 600W PSU delivers solid performance at 12V that hardly varied at all under loaded conditions.
Conclusion:
As you can see, OCZ has done it again with the Evostream 600W PSU: they have produced another high-quality product that delivers solid performance and also looks darn good doing so. The power numbers are about as rock-solid as I’ve seen in a while, and the large number of connectors should provide for future upgrades. Despite a couple of minor nits, I would recommend this power supply if you’re looking for a new PSU with all the features and from a reputable company.
Pros:
+ Solid performance
+ Great titanium-mirrored finish
+ Quad 12V rails
+ Modular cables with UV glow and blue LED on fan
+ Multi-GPU ready
Cons:
- Cables are a little stiff
- Not very quiet (though not a silent PSU)
