Installation of the NZXT Sentry Fan controller is straightforward and similar to installing a card reader in your computer. The first step is to install the included backup battery into the controller, which allows the controller to maintain the time and settings when the computer is off. Next, connect the fans to the controller. Finally, insert the controller into the open bay slot and secure using 4 screws. As you can see, the controller fits perfectly inside the drive bay slots and does not protrude, making for a clean installation.

Once the computer is turned on, the controller comes to life, displaying time, fan speeds, and temperatures. Thanks to the large size of the display, everything is very easy to read. There is no software to install, and the front panel controls are easy to use. I like how the fan speed is displayed both as an RPM and also on the scale below the RPM number; this allows you to determine how close the fan is to max speed without actually having to remember the top RPM of each fan. I also like how the fan icon to the right of the temperature illuminates, showing when a fan is powered on.
I’ve used this fan controller for a while in both manual and automatic modes and haven’t had any problems whatsoever. The display is crisp and the fans turn on and can be adjusted easily.
