Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound Review

Testing:

Test System:
AMD 64+ 4000+ S939 Winchester
Biostar T-Force Motherboard
1 GB Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 DDR RAM
GeForce 7600GS w/ Accelero S2 GPU Cooler
3x Western Digital 250 GB 7200 rpm harddrive
Hitachi 80GB SATA harddrive
Sony DVD player

Idle temperatures were taken running Windows and full loads were taken while running gaming loops. Temperatures (in degrees Celsius) were recorded.

Stock speed:

As seen in the chart, NT-H1 compound performed slightly better the Arctic Silver 5 compound by about 1-2 degrees, which is a very surprising result given the solid performance of the AS5 compound. I typically find that AS5 takes a little bit of time to burn-in however, so the results may not be so conclusive in a long duration test.

Overclocked:

In the video card application, the NT-H1 continued its strong performance, performing on-part with the Artic Silver 5. Still not bad performance at all, since the cooler that was being used is very efficient in its own right.

Conclusion:

I was impressed by the performance of the Noctua NT-H1 thermal compound, especially considering this is Noctua’s first attempt at such a product. The compound delivers solid performance that is on-par or even slightly better than the some of the better-known thermal compounds and certainly is better than a lot of the generic/no-name thermal compound that many products come with. For a small investment, this thermal compound will make a big difference and is worthy of consideration for your next application.

Pros:

+ Non conductive, non-corrosive, non-curing, etc
+ Solid performance
+ No burn-in time

Cons:

- Harder to spread than some

Current Real Time Pricing
