Noctua NF-P12 120mm Case Fan Review

About a year ago, we had a chance to review a couple of different Noctua 120mm fans and were impressed by their solid performance and quiet operations. Noctua has been busy designing new products and are back with a new offering in the 120mm fan market, the Noctua NF-P12 120mm fan. Will they be able to improve on an already near-perfect product? That is what we’re here to find out in this review.

About Noctua:

Check out their website- http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=produkte&lng=en

Noctua aims at establishing a new level of quality and performance "Designed in Austria" through paying attention to the users' needs in a market burdened with all kinds of frills and furbelows and providing sound-optimised premium components, which serve their purpose in a smart, precise and reliable manner.
Noctua arises from a cooperation between the Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H and the Taiwanese Kolink International Corporation and entertains a development partnership with the Austrian Institute of Heat Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). These connections form the key to the achievement of our goal: The partnership with the ÖIWV permits the application of scientific measurement instrumentation, methods of calculation and simulation technology in the R&D process. Rascom's long, customer-oriented experience in developing and distributing sound-optimised high-end products ensures a clear focus on the users' needs. The use of Kolink's advanced manufacturing technology and ultra-modern production plants allows us to efficiently implement our technical edge and provide solutions of the highest standard in quality and performance.

Features:

Pressure-optimized Nine-Blade Design
Specifically developed for high-impedance applications such as CPU coolers, water-cooling radiators or cases with tight fan grills, the NF-P12 provides superior pressure and airflow performance.

Vortex-Control Notches
Psychoacoustic optimizations like the staggered Vortex-Control Notches make the NF-P12 surprisingly quiet.

Smooth Commutation Drive
The NF-P12's new drive system reduces torque variations and thereby ensures improved running smoothness.

Self-stabilizing oil-pressure bearing
Noctua's well proven SSO-Bearing technology guarantees supremely quiet operation and exceptional long-term stability.

The Noctua NF-P12 120mm fan arrived in a colorful package with a clear window displaying the fan. The back of the package describes some of the unique features of the fan and the specifications. Also, the package also opens up to reveal even more test data and technical information about the fan.

Opening up the package, the fan and its associated accessories are found to be well-secured in a customized plastic form. Along with the fan itself, the package comes with four vibration compensators, a 3:4 pin adaptor, a low-noise and an ultra-low-noise adaptor, and a set of regular fan screws.

The fan itself has a unique color-scheme, with a peach-colored housing and maroon-colored blade, which I’ve now come to expect from Noctua. Looking closely at the fan, a couple of things to notice are the 9 fan blades (most fans have 7) and the odd “notches” in each blade (Noctua calls them Vortex Control Notches). These two design features are a couple of things that set apart the NF-P12 from the previously mentioned NF-S12; this fan provides higher airflow than its brother (hence the 9 blades) yet still with quiet operations (the vortex control notches reduce the air noise). Looking at the Noctua website, there’s actually quiet a bit of aerodynamic engineering that went into this fan, and they provide the data to back up their claims.
