Noctua NF-B9 92mm Case Fan Review
Case fans come in a wide variety of sizes, with the most popular ones being 80mm and 120mm. But a somewhat less common size is 92mm, which is in-between the two. Today we’ll take a look at Noctua’s latest fan offering, the Noctua NF-B9 92mm Case Fan. Will this middle child prove to offer the best of both? Read on to find out.

Noctua arises from a cooperation between the Austrian Rascom Computerdistribution Ges.m.b.H and the Taiwanese Kolink International Corporation and entertains a development partnership with the Austrian Institute of Heat Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). These connections form the key to the achievement of our goal: The partnership with the ÖIWV permits the application of scientific measurement instrumentation, methods of calculation and simulation technology in the R&D process. Rascom's long, customer-oriented experience in developing and distributing sound-optimised high-end products ensures a clear focus on the users' needs. The use of Kolink's advanced manufacturing technology and ultra-modern production plants allows us to efficiently implement our technical edge and provide solutions of the highest standard in quality and performance.

The Noctua NF-B9 92mm fan arrived in a colorful package in the colorful Noctua color scheme, with a clear window displaying the fan. The back of the package describes some of the unique features of the fan and the specifications. Also, the package also opens up to reveal even more test data and technical information about the fan.

Opening up the package, the fan and its associated accessories are found to be well-secured in a customized plastic form. Along with the fan itself, the package comes with four vibration compensators, a 3:4 pin adaptor, a low-noise and an ultra-low-noise adaptor, and a set of regular fan screws.

The fan itself has that trademark Noctua color-scheme, with a peach-colored housing and maroon-colored blade, which I’ve now come to expect from Noctua. Looking closely at the fan, a couple of things to notice are the beveled blade tips and the odd “notches” in each blade (Noctua calls them Vortex Control Notches). These two design features are a couple of things that set apart the NF-B9 from other fans on the market. Given the amount of research and engineering data that Noctua has to back up their fans, it’s pretty clear to see why they are the leader in this industry.
