Opening up the case, we get a glimpse at the configuration of this ATX/mATX case. With the case open, we get to see some of the noise absorption material and the two included 120-mm black and white fans.

As you might notice, this case is constructed slightly different than most, with the hard drive bay and power supply being installed at the base of the case. Also with the case removed, we get a better glimpse of the drive bay compartment; as you can see, one side is held with screws while the other has no support.

Installation of the components inside the case for the most part went smoothly, with little clearance or interference problems. The only thing that stood out as being somewhat tricky was the fact that the hard drive IDE cable barely reached the motherboard due to the location of the hard drive bay. Installation was made easier thanks to the tool-less PCI mounting system, which actually surprised me as most silent PC builders prefer screws since they provide a more secure connection that has less vibration.
Computer operations were noticeably quieter than the previous case I was using, thanks to the quiet 120mm fans and lack of extra ventilation windows. While you won’t be able to completely eliminate noise (nor should any case be expected to do so by itself), there is a noise reduction. Thankfully, the noise reduction didn’t come with an increase in operating temperature, likely due to the quality fans and good ventilation on the front panels.
Conclusion:
The Nexus Caterpillar Silent System PC Case is decent computer case that does have a couple of features, namely the quiet fans and noise absorption foam, which do help in reducing computer operations. Other than that, this is fairly ordinary case that doesn’t stand out amongst the crowd. And when you consider that you can add silent fans and foam to any case, even its notable features can be reproduced. Overall, I’d recommend picking up this case if you see a good deal but there are better ones out there for your money.
Pros:
+ Clean looking exterior
+ Reduces (but doesn’t eliminate) computer noise
+ Comes with noise absorption material and quality fans
+ Front panel easily accessible
Cons:
- Can only remove/access one side of the case
- Odd interior configuration
- Tool-less features are out of place for a silent PC build
- Plastic doors
- Small number of drive bays
