Icy Box IB-250 2,5" External HDD Enclosure Review

Today one of the main things people are looking for is size and performance/size and when it comes to harddrives the flash drives are slowly coming onto the market but there are competitors like a 2.5" HDD. Today we are going to look at a enclosure for a 2.5" HDD, to be more precise its the IB-250 from Icybox. This pocketsize hdd enclosure makes it very easy to transfer your HDD around and it also protects it from damage and with its USB interface you can plug it into any computer and run it right away. Lets see what type of performance we can get out of this enclosure.

About Icybox:

Check out their website.

Specifications:

· Compact Aluminium Case
· With artificial Leather Pocket
· Supports 2.5” SATA HDD (12mm)
· USB 2.0 Host Interface
· LED display for power and HDD access
· Plug & play

This is our first 2.5" HDD enclosure review and this is a shot at expanding the range of products we review. This enclosure comes packed in a black and green box, they have printed a big picture of the device on the front and on the back you can read about the features in various languages. This is a Icybox standard box and as we can see the various languages show that they have spread around the globe with their products.

Inside you will find two cables, a quick manual and a cd with a manual also in PDF format. The cables can both be used on the enclosure, one of them is a standard USB cable and the other one is a "power booster" in case the USB port would not push out enough juice to the device, that is when you can connect the extra cable to another USB port and get the device running according to the manual. I Guess it's mainly for older motherboards that have a fluxuations in the power output of the USB port.

To protect the enclosure Icybox have sent a leather pouch that will protect the enclosure both from dents and scraches. It almost looks like a small leather wallet which also has a few pockets so you can put your credit cards or papers in it.

The enclosure itself has a nice black case with some aluminum colored sides. On the top right they have mounted two leds which shows when the unit is turned on and when the HDD is working.

On the middle of the drive they have printed in a nice silver text Icybox and they also have the same print on the top.

On the top of the player they have decided to mount the On/Off button along with the DC IN and USB connector. The DC IN is not required atleast for my setups which makes it quite convinient with just one cable.

When opening the enclosure uo you will get access to the electronics and also a small zip lock bag with four tiny screws so you can mount the cover back on.
