Icemat Siberia In:Ear Headset Review

Using the included extension cord, the overall cord length of the headset is a generous 2.8 meters (9 feet) of total length, which should work in most situations. The contacts on the 3.5mm jacks are gold-plated for an improved connection. Although the jacks are color coded (green for the earphones and pink for the microphone), they are not labeled, so it’s a little complicated to determine which jack goes to which when using both. Another feature that I thought was missing that I really use a lot is a remote control, on-the-cord volume control knob on the headphones.

Taking a closer look at the microphone, we find a cylinder-shaped microphone attached to a clip that swivels. The microphone has a very useful on/off switch on the body. Also, the microphone cord has two grooves that allow you to attach the two cords together, which is great for managing the two cords without getting them tangled.
Testing:
I tested the headset in a variety of situations, including VOIP, gaming, and music listening, and overall I was satisfied with the performance in all situations. First off, the earphones are the most comfortable set of earphones I’ve ever used. After long periods of use, my ears didn’t ache in protest as they usually do with my other earphones. Though I usually prefer headphones, these earphones are very ear-friendly.
While wearing the earphones, I felt that background noise was reduced as claimed. I could be wrong, but I think that the little speakers on the back of the earphones actually output the same sound coming from the front at a lower level, which drowns out the background noise.
Listening to music, the earphones were very impressive, offering good sound at all frequencies. Aided by the lack of background noise, music came through crisply and clean-sounding. I can definitely see myself using these earphones by themselves with my Ipod or a PSP.
The clip-on microphone also performed well; people had no complaints being able to hear my voice. Its omni-directional capability allows you to orient the microphone in any direction, and the microphone is sensitive enough that you don’t have to put it close to your mouth to be heard. Again, the on/off switch is a handy feature.
Conclusion:
Icemat has once again proved that they can produce quality products. Their latest audio product, the Icemat Siberia In:Ear Headset, is a very comfortable and functional earphone/microphone combination that performs well in all types of listening situations. If you are looking for a versatile headset that will serve all your audio needs, I suggest you give them a try. I suspect your ears will thank you for it.
