GoldenMars, makers of a wide range of PC peripherals and memory products, has sent us one of their “Turbo” Secure Digital (SD) flash cards to examine. Read on to find out how much of a boost the turbo gives you.

The GoldenMars Turbo SD card arrived in a typical clear package that most flash memory products seem to come in. The card itself is prominently displayed on the front, and the back provides a list of additional specifications in multiple languages. The front of the package provides the most important specifications: the size (512MB) and the speed (150x). In case you weren’t aware, 1x equates to a 150 KB/sec transfer rate, so 150x equals 22.5 MB/sec transfer rate.

Opening the package, the SD card can be found in a locking plastic case that protects the card from damage. The left side of the card has a write-protect switch. As expected, the card itself has the same shape and size of any other secure digital card. There are no instructions or anything else that comes with the memory card itself.

I tested out the SD card using the removable storage benchmark in SiSoft Sandra version XI. Testing was performed on a Dell Inspiron 9300 Laptop.

As you can see, the GoldenMars SD card performed similarly to other top rated SD benchmarks. The card certainly blew away my existing 20x SD card.
Conclusion:
The GoldenMars Turbo 512MB SD card lived up to its billing as a fast secure digital card. With a 150x transfer rate, the card should be able to handle any current and future applications and provide plenty of speed. While the sample model is a little small in terms of capacity for my choosing, GoldenMars also offers cards in 1GB and 2GB capacities. Overall, I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t consider this card over any other manufacturers card.
Pros:
+ Fast transfer speeds
+ Write protection capability
Cons:
- None
