As with all the products I’ve received from Geeks.com, the Apple iPod Nano arrived well-packaged in a small yet protective cardboard box. As you might have concluded, the iPod we’re reviewing has been refurbished. While some may turn their nose away from refurbished products, I’ve typically had great success with them, especially when they come from a reputable company like Geeks.com who stand behind the products they sell.
The iPod Nano itself is found secured inside the cardboard packaging. Along with the Nano, the package comes with a set of iPod earphones and a USB cable, which are the same accessories that the factory version of the iPod comes with. The only thing perhaps missing is the instruction book and software, but both of those can be easily downloaded from Apple’s website.

Removing the iPod from the packaging, you can’t help but notice how small the Nano is; it’s truly an amazing feat of engineering that such a sophisticated device can be packaged so small. The iPod Nano is obviously smaller than the regular iPod, with one of the reasons being that the Nano is a flash-memory based player, as opposed to a hard-drive based one. Having had many hard drive players fail on me (including a 20GB iPod), I personally prefer having a flash-based player. Our sample is the 8GB version, which easily holds 2000 songs or up to 8 hours of video, which is plenty for most situations in my opinion.
This version of the iPod is wider than the previous model yet is shorter. Thankfully, the iPod Nano remains extremely thin.
