Evercool Transformer 6 CPU Cooler Review

Once again, the Transformer cooler surprised me by having a fairly unique installation sequence to match its interesting design. Yet despite that, it was very easy to install onto my AMD test system. The first step in most cooler installations is of course to remove the existing cooler and add a dab of thermal paste. Next, simply place the cooler on top of the CPU, with the appropriate bracket. Now here’s where it gets odd- you flip over the motherboard and, while holding everything with one hand, attach the mounting bracket from the bottom. Once you’re able to get the screws lined up and attached from the bottom, connect the fan and speed selector to the motherboard and you’re done.

While this is a large cooler, there weren’t any clearance issues. No concern with this cooler hitting any of the capacitors, RAM, the Northbridge cooler, etc. However, you do have to be careful on the build sequence of the computer, as the cooler will block access your RAM and also certain screw holes for the motherboard.
After turning it on, you are greeted with a nice blue LED on the fan.
Testing:

Idle temperatures were taken running Windows and full loads were taken while running SiSandra’s Burn-in Module. Temperatures (in degrees Celsius) were recorded at the low fan speed, with the results compared with two recently reviewed air coolers: the Silenx Ixtrema Cooler and the Noctua NH-U12P. Ambient temp was about 20C.

Results after overclocking to 2400 MHz-
Overclocked:

As seen in both tests, the Evercool Transformer 6 cooler’s performance was very respectable, matching that of two other silent yet solidly-performing air coolers. I was very pleased with the noise performance of the cooler, especially at the lower speed.
Conclusion:
The Evercool Transformer 6 CPU cooler is a uniquely designed yet solid performing CPU cooler. The cooler definitely has a futuristic look to it, and the installation procedure is different than any I’ve seen on the market. Yet its performance in both cooling and noise is similar to some of the better coolers on the market. If you can get over the cooler’s large size, you might want to give this unique cooler a try.
Pros:
+ Unique yet easy installation
+ Quiet operations
+ Compatible with both AMD and Intel processors
+ Solid performance
Cons:
- Large cooler
- Block access to parts of the motherboard once installed
