Creative X-fi XtremeGamer soundcard

Software:

In the "Audio creation mode" you can create music or sounds, and as we can see on the left picture it's quite an advanced control panel where you can set up pretty much everything. This software is included with all X-fi cards which is quite nice as they all offer these features.

If you use the card for home entertainemnt this setting is the one you should switch to. This setting is for your movies or tv shows, here you can set Dolby Digital, CMSS, Equalizer and many other things depending on what type of speaker setup you have at home.

The gaming menu is the one I think people use the most, in there you can activate Crystalizer, CMSS or just ass some more bass to it. All the menus are very well made and easy to navigate in, some even have a text explaining what will happen if you turn a feature on. The right picture shows the main menu where you choose the mode you want to use.

THX menu:

The THX Setup console can be found in the start menu under Creative. Here you will see excatly where to plug in the speakers. You can also calibrate them and manage the bass. In the calibration menu you will be able to adjust the volume.

Testing:

We have tested this card in both gaming and in normal daily use, where we play music and surf the net. Compared to other soundcards that are non X-fi this removed the "humming" noise in the headphones. I also am able to get the sound to have a bit more boost with the bass settings.
The sound is very rich and clear with ever pair of ear/headphones I have tested with. I also checked the CPU usage and I have not found it to use any more CPU power than any other soundcard. All the features that this card holds adds a nice boost to the card especially the CMSS-3d in gaming.

Conclusion:

Overall I highly doubt there is any better card for 70$ USD. They have really succeeded in making a cheaper card but still be able to keep the good features the X-fi series hold. It does not have X-ram or front panel, but how often do you even use those? The front panel is more built on to the card so you have the same features on the card instead of an extra panel. You can buy a remote for this card also in case you got some need for it. I don't think I have to say much more to conclude this review, it's an awesome card that we award with editors choice.

Pros:

+ X-fi
+ Superb sound
+ Good software
+ Price

Cons:

- No gold coated connectors? :)
