Corsair COOL Water Cooling kit

Hello chaps, today we are going to have a look at another water cooling kit. This time it's a complete kit from Corsair, Which most of us already know as a company that produces high quality and high performance memory. So both you and I have really high expectations that this is going to be a high quality water cooling kit with great performance. Let's find out!

About Corsair:

Corsair has been a leader in the design and manufacture of high-speed modules since 1994. Our focus has always been on supporting the special demands of mission-critical servers and high-end workstations, as well as the performance demands of extreme gamers. As a pioneer in high-speed module design, Corsair is a trusted supplier to many computer manufacturers. In high-density memory solutions, Corsair has always been one of the first suppliers to achieve advanced qualifications on Intel, Tyan and SuperMicro server platforms. We also work closely with other major server platform manufacturers to release product that is 100% compatible with their latest server products.

Features:

High Performance Pump
Sourced for compatibility and performance with other kit components, the high-pressure 12 volt pump runs off the existing computer power supply. No external power is needed. The compact design and small form factor allow convenient mounting and easy installation.

High Flow Reservoir
The high-flow design of the reservoir increases water flow through the cooling system. The raised section eliminates bubbles and their noise for quieter operation.

120mm Low-Restriction Radiator
Radiator features 120mm low-restriction design for greater cooling efficiency through increased water flow. Includes "RadBox" options for internal or external chassis mounting.

120mm Low Noise High-Flow Fan
120mm fan provides low superior cooling properties with minimal noise.

240-Pin Copper CPU Block
The directional design of the all copper, 240 copper pin CPU block maximizes heat dissipation as the it removes heat from the CPU and disperses to the coolant. A variety of mounting brackets are included for support of wide variety of CPUs.

Custom Retension Mechanisms
CPU water block retention mechanisms designed specifically to work with your motherboard and CPU. Your kit will include hardware for Pentium 4 and Athlon 64 CPUs or Pentium 4-LGA775 and Athlon XP CPUs.

High-Flow, Low-Restriction Tubing
The entire Cool system is based on 3/8" inner diameter tubing which yields higher flow, fewer restrictions and more efficient cooling. No converters to restrict flow.

Corsair's Specially Formulated Coolant
Specially formulated green coolant offers superior cooling qualities with corrosion inhibitors added to the coolant to protect your system.

The Corsair COOL water cooling kit comes in those cool looking package, notice the two stickes at the front which says "Included Pentium 4 & Athlon 64 CPU block and retension mechanism" and "Included Pentium 4 LGA775 & Athlon XP CPU block and retension mechanism". There's two available kits of the Corsair COOL, one with for the AMD64 s754/s939/s940 and for the Intel s478, there's also another kit for the Intel LGA 775 and the old Athlon XP. The difference is just how the included waterblocks are made and the included CPU hold-down brackets. At the back of the package you can see what's included in the package.

At the top and the bottom we can read a little about the different component such as features etc, which are included.

The 410x165x313mm (LengthxDepthxWidth) box includes the following components, Coolsleeves, Radbox with all the necessery screws, bolts etc for the installation, 120mm radiator, 6 feet (~180cm) 3/8" tubing, 225ml coolant, two CPU blocks, with 2 feet (~61cm) 3/8" tubing pre-installed, 5.25" drive-bay reservoir, a piece of foam with sticky backs, a 12V pump, 120mm fan, chromed grill for the 120mm fan, PCI bracket with holes for the tubing and a 4pin power connector for the 120mm fan, quickstart guide, CD with the installation manual etc, two tubes with thermal grease, six hose clamps and finally the four CPU hold down brackets for AMD s462, Intel s478, AMD64 s754/s939/s940, Intel LGA 775 and all the necessery screws, springs, washers etc for the installation. Ah, and another thing which sneaked away from the picture, that's a bunch of stickies which you can have on the waterblock, radiator, tank and so on. :)

I'm pretty impressed by this pump, it's so small but so strong and quiet. It's from the begining a Liang Delphi (product link) pump which is relabled, if my research is 110% correct. It's not a 230V nor a 110V pump, it's a 12V pump which gets connected directly to one of your 4pin molex connector from your powersupply. There's also a 3pin connector with a blue cable which is supposed to be connected for example to the CPU fan header and then you can monitor the RPM on the pump.

If you compare this pump to a Eheim 1048 which is a popular pump for home made water cooling kits, at least in europe. Well the Eheim is big as a house and the Laing Delphi is a little roadster at the front of the house. The dimensions on the pump are following, 62 x 62 x 38mm (LengthxWidthxHeight) it can operate up to temperature at 60C. The maximum system pressure and the maximum flow is 22PSI and 400LPH (Liters Per Hour). The nipples are 3/8".

The coolant that comes with the kit is basically propylene glycol. I thought first that it was UV reactive due the nice dark green color, but it was a big negative when I lighten up the porno light... errr the CCFL UV lights. :( The whole bottle will be used when you're going to fill up the system with this and distilled water.

The radiator is a Black Ice Pro from Hardware Labs. It's made of 100% copper and the dimensions on the radiator are following, 157 x 133 x 25 mm (Height x Width x Thick), nipples are 3/8". It has a sweet black painting and there's holes on both sides of the raditor for the installation of a 120mm fan. You can find more information about this product at Hardware Labs site.

The 120mm fan that Corsair has chosen to send with the kit is a fan from Panoflo, model FBA12G12L (PDF). It's rated voltage is 12V, pushes around 70CFM of air and the dB level is around 30dB. It will work at 5V even though Panaflo has listed that it's operating voltage is between 7-13.8V. The fan has a 4pin connector like the 4pin for the motherboard, also known as the ATX12V. It uses only though 2 of the 4 available pins, and the fan gets connected to the included PCI bracket with holes for the tubing. Then the 4pin molex connetctor gets connected directly to your powersupply. It's a bit sad that Corsair didn't send a fan controller with the water cooling kit. What you could do is swap the yellow +12V cable with the red +5V cable then the fan only gets 5V and it will be much more silent! There's also an included chromed fan grill for the fan.
