Coolmax RM-750B 750W PSU Review
A few weeks ago, we took a look at Coolmax’s 950W PSU and were impressed by the quality and stable voltages. Coolmax also offers a 750W PSU, the Coolmax RM-750B 750W PSU, which they claim has a high level of performance with a lower price point. Will the reduced power prove to be too much of a sacrifice? Let’s find out as we take a closer look at this power supply.

The Coolmax RM-750B 750W power supply (PSU) arrived in a colorfully decorated cardboard box with a picture of the unit on the front and sides. The back of the package described the features and output rating of the PSU, emphasizing some of its features.

Opening up the package, the PSU can be found snugly wrapped in a custom foam insert with the cables to one side of the package. Along with the power supply, the package contained four screws, and a power cable; this is a fairly standard power supply offering.

Unwrapping the PSU from the bubblewrap, the first thing you can’t help but notice is that the cables were attached to the PSU. In other words, the PSU did not come with modular cables. Modular PSUs allow PSU customization by plugging in only the cables that are necessary (Coolmax does offer other power supplies that have modular cables, such as the previously reviewed CUG-950B). Thankfully, most of the cables were nicely wrapping with cable sleeving, though the wires close to the supply enclosure were strangely left unsleeved. The PSU comes with a 20/24pin motherboard connector, 8 molex/IDE connectors, 4 SATA connectors, 2 floppy drive connectors, a 4/4 power connector, and two PCI-E connectors. The two PCI-E connectors is a nice addition not found on all power supplies; this is essential for dual graphics card setups.

Taking a closer look at the PSU, the exterior of the power supply has a fairly plain exterior, with a polished black metal enclosure. There is a large 120mm cooling fan on this power supply, which likely aids in keeping it quiet but hopefully doesn’t result in higher operating temperatures and less efficiency.
