Asus Striker II Formula Motherboard Review

This is the external soundcard that comes with the board. It is a SupremeFX 2 soundcard. Quote from Asus website "SupremeFX II delivers an excellent high definition audio experience to the gamers of ROG. The SupremeFX II features unique audio innovations for gamers to spot enemes in 3D environment during game play. SupremeFX II also provides gamers a special tool to emphasize human voices in games to help make dialogues clearer and more audible."

I have tested this card in various games, and with various music genres and I think that the sound is excellent. I had both tested with speakers and with Sennheiser Headphones. I think that this card will work great so I don't see any real reason to buy an extra soundcard.

It is time for us to take a look at the bios and what strikes me when I log into the bios is this background picture. First I found it annoying but after awhile I realized it looked cool and it does not bother me at all that they have actually gotten rid of the old fashion blue bios. If we look at the top menu we can see the Extreme tweaker menu along with the advanced, power, boot, tools and exit part of the menu.

If we look at the right picture which is from the Extreme Tweaker menu, we can clearly see that it allows you to change various functions on the board.

A bit deeper in to the Extreme Tweaker menu we can set memory timings, various board features along with the CPU multiplier. You can also enable or disable the cores on your processor.

The hardware monitor is a bit more advanced in this bios version as you can checl voltages, temperatures, fan speeds controller/monitor.

A final look at the voltage menu reveals alot of voltage settings.

Testing:

Intel QX6700
Asus Striker 2 Formula
Mushkin Redline 800Mhz DDR2
Zalman 550W PSU
Western Digital Caviar 16MB 250GB HDD
Windows Vista Ultimate

Testing was done with the following software, Pcmark Vantage, Sisoft Sandra XI, SuperPi, Cinebench and Winrar. We compared the review board vs Asus P5K Pro and MSI K9N4 SLI.

Sisoft Sandra XI, Cpu Arithmetic:

Whetstone seems to have a cap which all boards clearly break. Dyrstone on the other hand shows that the P5K and Striker board are very close in performance.
