Asus Maximus II Formula Motherboard Review

Please click on thumbnails to get bigger pictures

You will be able to mount most processor coolers on this board since Asus has left alot of space around the socket. All the heatsinks are connected to each other through heatpipes as you can see on the left picture. The memory sockets are blue and white so make sure to look in the manual how to connect them when you want to run dual channel or overclock.

The board has two PCI connectors and two PCI-E 16x connectors for you to use. The SATA connectors are placed right by the IDE port, and they have also mounted a Start and Reset button by the PCI connector to the far left on the board.

In the back of the card you will find the traditional Ps/2 connector along with four USB connectors, you also have a LAN connector, firewore and E-sata.

Actually there is in total 6 USB connectors and 2 LAN connectors which should be enough for awhile atleast, there are extra ports included in the box also that you can connect. When you plug some power into the board the Start and Reset buttongs lit up along with the soundcard and one of the heatsinks.

Testing:

Intel QX6700 CPU
Asus P5K3 Deluxe
Corsair Twinx3x2048-1600 DDR3
Western Digital Caviar 16Mb SATA HDD
OCZ GameXstream 700W

Testing was done with the following software, Pcmark Vantage, Sisoft Sandra XI, Cinebench, Winrar, Superpi and HDspeed.

We used the following boards to compare with, Asus Striker Extreme and MSI K9N4 SLI.

So far the board has proved to have alot of functions and features that I find useful atleast, it is time for us to take a look at the test results and also see what speeds we can boost the board to.

Sisoft Sandra XI, Cpu Arithmetic:

In this test you are supposed to as high as possible and we can see that the striker board is a bit faster than the Maximus.
