Asus 9600 GT TOP Videocard Review

Today we take a look at a new videocard from Asus. It this in the middle class segment on the market but the question is how it actually performs. We are goint to compare it vs the 8800GT and Asus 3850 videocards to see what type of performance we can expect.

About Asus:

Check out their website.

Features:

NVIDIA® GeForce 9600GT

Full Microsoft® DirectX® 10 Support

HDCP compliant

NVIDIA SLI Technology

The card comes packed in a similar box as the earlier middle class cards. A nice feature on this card is that it has a big 80 mm cooler fan which makes it less noisy. It also has HDMI which is getting more usable as more people are getting HDTV. You can read all the specifications on the back of the box before you actually buy it.

Inside the box you will find a manual, driver cd, and a HDMI adaptor connection instructions. As if that's not enough you also get a DVI>VGA adapter, HDMI>DVI adapter and also a normal S-Video to RGB adapter. Some power supplies might not be equipped with a PCI-E power cable so Asus have decided to inlude one of these also.

The cooler takes up alot of the card but it is well worth having a bulky cooler when you boot the computer up as this makes barely any noise when idling and surfing in Windows.

You also get dual DVI so you can run dual monitors if you think you will need it. You also got a S-video port to plug your computer in your TV and run some movies or games on the TV.

The heatsink is mounted with four screws from the back of the card. This makes it quite easy to also remove the cooler if you want to mount another cooler on it.

This TOP version of the card is factory overclocked and it is supposed to be 10% faster than the normal GT card from Asus. The card comes with some software which makes it very easy to control various aspects of the card. Push in the cd and go through the installation process to get your card running.
