Arctic Cooling MX2 Thermal Compound Review

Testing:

Test System:
AMD 64+ 4000+ S939 Winchester
ECS Motherboard
Coolink Silentator CPU Cooler
Corsair 1GB ValueSelect PC3200 DDR RAM
GeForce 7600GS w/ Accelero S2 cooler
Western Digital 250 GB 7200 rpm harddrive

Idle temperatures were taken running Windows and full loads were taken while running gaming loops. Temperatures (in degrees Celsius) were recorded.

As seen in the chart, MX2 compound outperformed the Arctic Silver 5 compound by about 4 degrees, which is a very surprising result given the solid performance of the Silver 5 compound.

In the video card application, the MX2 continued its strong performance, though not as impressive as in the CPU application. Still not bad performance at all, since the cooler that was being used is very efficient in its own right.

Conclusion:

At only ~$8 USD, the Arctic Cooling MX2 thermal compound is a great product that will likely provide you the best bang for the buck when it comes to cooling. The compound comes in an easy-to-use syringe and is simple to apply. What more can I say; if you build or mod computers, you’ll likely need some thermal compound. Why use some generic compound that comes with the hardware when you can achieve even greater performance using this compound? I suggest you consider this product when you’re putting together your parts list for your next build.

Pros:

+ Non conductive, non-corrosive, non-curing, etc
+ Easy installation
+ Great price
+ Solid performance

Cons:

- None so far
