Silenx Ixtrema ICX-HA2 CPU Cooler Review
We’ve seen a number of fan manufacturers branch out into the CPU cooler business, with mixed success. CPU coolers are a lot different than fans, but if a company pays attention to quality, they typically do well. Acousticpc.com, well-known retailers of silent performance computer components, sent us a new cooler from Silenx, the Silenx Ixtrema ICX-HA2 CPU Cooler. We’ve had a chance to review Silenx fans in the past and were generally impressed by their silent operations and good airflow. Will this CPU cooler leave the same impression? That is what we’re here to find out.

The Silenx Ixtrema ICX-HA2 CPU cooler came in nice red-colored package with the cooler partially displayed on the front. The package also boosts some impressive buzz phrases such as “quietest noise levels”, “greatest efficiency”, and “superior performance”. The sides of the package have a list of the features and specifications of the cooler. It’s nice that the cooler is compatible with all the latest Intel and AMD processors.
Acousticpc.com also sent us an optional 2nd fan that can be added to boost the cooling performance even more.

Once opened, the box reveals the CPU cooler nicely nestled between a custom plastic insert. Along with the cooler itself, the package comes with AMD mounting brackets (preinstalled), Intel mounting brackets, various accessories/clips, a fan speed controller, and an instruction manual. I was a little disappointed at the generic thermal compound that came with the cooler, but I guess it’s better than nothing.

Taking a closer look at the cooler, the first thing to notice is the somewhat unique shape of the cooler, with the middle part of the cooler being recessed from the edges. According the Silenx, the design allows for maximum air turbulence to facilitate heat exchange for best performance. The cooler has 55 aluminum fins that offer 9000 square cm of cooling surface area, which is quite large. The cooler is symmetrical, which makes sense since you can mount two 120mm fans on both sides.
